The Copenhagen Climate Conference begins tomorrow, Monday, December 7th,
2009. The hopes of the world are centered on what takes place in the
Danish capital over the next two weeks. President Obama is going to be
flying in at the climax of the conference, when hopefully some agreement
has been hammered out by world heads.
So what does astrology say about the prospects for success of the
conference?
It is quite possible to construct charts for events as well as for
births of people. In fact, over the last month I have been doing several
of them. In particular, over the likely success or otherwise of some
businesses where takeovers were in prospect. Since one of these
concerned a family firm, it was of more than academic interest to me to
see what the charts came up with.
Fortunately, the chart did predict a successful partnership if the
takeover went ahead, which was far from clear as negotiations raced
ahead at breakneck speed in real time. But then, this is how things
actually happen in the real world.
If you know the time and place of a meeting where decisions are to be
made this does help to pin down the influences at work, the areas which
should be looked at and the underlying issues that need to be taken into
account.
Of course, people would like quick black and white answers. Is it going
to be good or bad? Will a lot of money be put on the table?
Should I sell or hold?
All these questions can be looked at, but if you are able to look at
these questions in conjunction with the birth charts of the main
characters, it makes it even more interesting. All the subtle nuances
come out and steering a course between all the potential bear traps
becomes possible.
Curiously, Pluto was very much involved in both the businesses I looked
at. This is the symbol of big money, of reform, of renovation, but also
of destruction, of the necessary clearing away of the old in order for
the new to flourish.
So it is not necessarily an unalloyed
good to see Pluto prominent in a chart when looking for a successful
outcome. Great changes are indicated when Pluto gets implicated in an
event. Earth shaking events can issue forth from the undoubted
uprooting that is predicted by its presence.
However, where Pluto-driven changes are concerned, they are likely to
work out well over the long haul, this is a planet that works in
decade-long cycles, the end result may well be a complete transformation
but it will all take place imperceptibly, below the surface, rather like
those time lapse films which reveal the growth of plants over a period
of days and weeks when they are speeded up again to reveal the patterns
of renewal.
With Pluto having recently entered the sign of Capricorn, great changes
are prefigured in how the world economy is structured over the coming
two decades, the governance and ruling bodies of the globe are set for
sweeping changes. Indeed Copenhagen is an early indicator of how the
rules are being rewritten as the world's populations wake up to the
momentous changes that must be enacted as pressure grows on global
resources.
The chart for the beginning of the Copenhagen conference is a vivid
illustration of dynamic tension between high flying hopes and
aspirations of a very idealistic nature coming into conflict with a
rabid and unchecked race to exploit the world's resources with few if
any countries prepared to make the first moves to ease back the rate of
consumption.
With the Sun not yet moving out of the shadows of the chart, it does not
bode well as the conference begins for a successful conclusion. There
may well be a raising of awareness of what needs to be done, but it is
going to take a lot more concerted effort by the nations of the world to
actually make it happen.
A lot of hot air is going to be generated in Copenhagen, but is the
follow up in the years to come that will make or break the spiral of
global warming that is in motion and gathering speed.
If you have ever been in a tornado, as I was once near the Great Lakes,
you will appreciate how foreboding can turn to blind panic as cars dive
off the highway and head for cover.
Let us hope our representatives do a little more than just talk in
Copenhagen.
