It may not seem like it at the time but February 4th 2012 is one of
those milestone days when you set out on a different stage of your life
journey.
Neptune, the last of the giant outer planets, moves into the
constellation of Pisces and stays there till January 2026.
Neptune rules aspiration, higher love, charity, ideals, as well as
deception, delusion, escapism, wishful thinking.
Now in the most mystical of all the signs, Pisces, you can rest assured
that a very different mood music is about to become the background to
our lives, new seductive melodies and lyrics are heard, the pied piper
is about to summon out the innocence and magic that resides in the
mysteries of life and death on planet Earth.
The last time round with Neptune in Pisces no one reading this was alive
(well alright perhaps a few yogis in the Himalayas) but once Neptune
entered Pisces in 1847 an extraordinary process started which saw almost
every country in Europe experience a ferment of revolutionary zeal as
the old order was openly mocked and demand swelled for greater democracy
and representation for the payment of taxes.
Many governments fell, yet the old order reasserted itself by taking on
board many of the changes that suddenly restive populations demanded.
In the United States it took till near the end of the Neptune residency
in Pisces (1847-1862) for the contagion of revolt and revolution to
spread but then it erupted into a war between the states which saw one
in five men killed over the course of the next five years.
The after shocks of that Neptunian event still reverberate through the
American continent to this day as the incredibly vitriolic election
campaign of 2012 is destined to portray.
So even if you detect a return to high idealism and aspiration in this
return of Neptune to mysterious magnificent unfathomable Pisces, do not
expect its course to unfold smoothly, there has to be a clearing away of
all the old clutter before the new dispensation can be established.
But you only have to see the events unfolding in the Arabian Gulf
as a third US aircraft carrier takes up position at the point where much
of the Middle East's oil is exported to the West, to realize the tension
is being ratcheted up.
Meanwhile the troubled European Union in between desperately pumping
money into the Euro currency joins the blockade of Iranian oil
purchases, with the full effect due in early July, a period of maximum
stress in the year's chart as revolutionary Uranus clashes with Pluto,
agent of drastic change.
Taking the long view, it may well be necessary for the West to lose its
dependency on volatile areas of energy supply. In the short term it is
likely to be a time of high drama.
Neptune is subtle in the effects it produces, it is all about changing
what people wish for, creating new beguiling images that people aspire
to.
These images and aspirations last whereas the immediate froth of events
is blown away.
One reason we can look forward to some great unforgettable films
(another Neptune medium) as well as electric video presentations on the
internet over the coming decade, and it all starts to happen this
February.
But as always it may require the verdict of history looking back on
these times to say, yes that was when it all started to change...for the
better we hope and trust.
